Hotel Zhytomyr
Hotel Zhytomyr is the revitalisation of one of the most recognisable buildings in Zhytomyr. The eight-storey hotel in the very centre of the city was built in 1971, and in 2026, after a reconstruction designed by AIMM, it welcomed guests again.
The task was to balance respect for the established urban context with today’s requirements for architecture and functionality. The facade became the key element of the transformation: smooth horizontal lines give the building a new, recognisable silhouette, while modern materials make it look light and open it up to the city.
The rhythm of the horizontal lines works with light, so the facade reads differently depending on the time of day and the viewpoint. In the evening, linear lighting traces the bands, and the ceiling of the wide canopy above the entrance glows.
Today the building again works as an important part of the city, combining hotel, business and public functions: a 105-room hotel with apartments for longer stays, a business centre, a conference hall and a restaurant with a summer terrace. The hotel has a shelter and rooms adapted for guests with limited mobility.
This is the approach AIMM sees as the basis of good revitalisation: architecture that not only changes the image of a building but also restores its meaning for the city and its people.
