Reconstruction of The Mariupol Embankment

About project

The project team developed the concept of the Central Embankment of Mariupol as a large space for recreation and entertainment integrated into the seascape. Creating spaces that make a person interact and teach something new is the task of the concept.

The journey along the embankment starts from Mariupol Square. This area is a new public space integrated into the multi-level waterfront sidewalk. The concept envisages shifting the center of gravity to the water, so the sidewalk starts almost from the boulevard with a parking lot under the green canopy on the territory of the square. It is a multi-level structure with an observation deck overlooking the sea, connected by ramps to the square and the promenade. And every visitor can easily get to the promenade and have a walk.

In this part, our team planned to create a spatial platform that covers the railway and connects with the square and the waterfront ramps. Locally under the platform, there is a medical center, sanitary rooms, cafes, information center.

From the bridge to the yacht club is a line of beaches. The first zone is for quiet rest, including for the less mobile category of the population. There are special paths for the descent to the water. The next area for recreation with children and active games consists of volleyball courts, trampolines, and slides.

There is a canal with fresh storm sewer water between the quiet recreation area and the children's area. We cross this area with bridges and plant a lot of greenery.

The third area near the yacht club is for a romantic pastime, and there may be outdoor ceremonies, gazebos for recreation. All areas from Primorsky Boulevard through the sidewalk of the central square are permeated with a thin thread of bicycle-pedestrian tape.

Then we get to the 3D park, where multi-level concrete structures allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the urban forest. This area is ideal for the park arrangement because this part is reinforced with a concrete frame and has a ground cover.

The highlight of the territory is the amphitheater in the sea - a unique idea for Ukraine. It is a platform working 24/7 and is always accessible to citizens. The place is meant to be fascinating.

The next recreation area for locals is a gazebo with barbecues, a lawn with trees, and walking paths. Due to trees and gazebos, we close the beach area from the industrial zone and save a place for recreation for locals.

Pierces for fishers are made taking into account the strengthening of the shore. We decided to save a place for one of our favorite local activities. They can also serve as additional berths for a nearby water station.

We are arranging and expanding the crossings over the railway at the expense of the already existing passage. We are adding a bike path that will connect with the bike path along the boulevard.

We decided to add a bridge over the water station, which will connect the separated parts of the beach, and will also serve as an additional safe crossing over the railway (including the bike path).

Along the railway, we built a green fence to protect pedestrians from the railway and reduce noise.

Beach between Marcochim and Brownfield: the water recreation area is expanding due to pontoons and sea pools. It will allow you to accommodate more vacationers and add functionality to the beach. Bicycles and footpaths run along the edge of the pontoons. Pontoons and two-level bridges along with them also serve to protect the shore from erosion instead of the existing destroyed piers. Part of the pools, which has access from both the shore and pontoons, serves as a children's area. Pools have no walls or bottom. Thanks to the nets, the water in the pool will not be contaminated with algae and will protect against jellyfish and fish.
