ASPECTS OF FORMATION OF THE PROJECT
GENERAL DESIGN TEAM
Interior Design of UA:TV
The AIMM team specializes in unique and technologically complex projects. One of the favorites was the UA:TV project, where the task was to adapt the historic building to the television channel.
The building of the Arsenal production workrooms is an important component of the Main Kyiv Fortress (New Kyiv-Pechersk, 1830–1863), which is part of the unique historical and architectural fortification complex of the Kyiv Fortress, which remains the only one in Europe, saved in a complete enough form.
The existing four-story building has an unusual shape in plan, partly reminiscent of the Latin letter W. The object faces Arsenalnaya Square with one of its end facades. This exact facade is well-known to the people of Kyiv and guests of the capital since it shows traces of the bullets of the military uprisings of 1917 and 1918.
One of the most fascinating and inspiring features of the building is the vaulted arched structures of the first and second floors. Massive brick walls, which are about one and a half meters in thickness in some places, are cut through by arched windows of impressive size as well.
We have come up with solutions to create an impressive interior, hiding all engineering communications from the eyes. At the same time, the status of a monument of national importance didn't allow us to place engineering equipment either on the facade or on the roof of the building. It was quite a difficult task for our designers, but they brilliantly implemented it.
Functionally, we divided the object into two zones: front and back offices. So, in the first, there was a reception, a lounge area for waiting for guests, recording studios, dressing rooms, a program service cabinet, in general, those rooms that are necessary to provide TV and radio interviews with UA:TV guests. And the back office is equipped with spacious editorial, hardware sound recording and editing, voice-over, narrative, conference rooms, archives and offices of the company administration.
The TV channel’s interior was made in the modern loft-style, where we left and restored the brick of walls and arches. The color spectrum was correlated with the shade of the existing brick, so the most successful combinations were white and graphite black. For zoning, we used glass partitions, which allowed us to maintain a sense of spaciousness and integrity of the internal space.
Special attention was paid to acoustics and noise protection in this project. The project was developed based on recommendations for the design, reconstruction, and expansion of existing hardware-studio complexes of television and radio broadcasting. Each equipment, interior item, and decoration materials are subject to strict requirements and norms. In modern Ukrainian history, this is the first project of a television and radio channel of such a level, which is located in a historical building.
